GARDEN BLOGGERS DISCOVER SPRING IN CHICAGO

Garden Blogger Joyce (right) from Muum's Musings
and Moi

What do garden bloggers do when they visit another city ? Look for gardens and garden bloggers of course ! So when Joyce from Muum's Musings ( Utah ) arrived in Chicago she contacted me and asked if I'd like to meet up at Lincoln Park Conservatory. I'd never miss such an opportunity like this.

We found Spring in Chicago even though it was still a bit chilly outside. Here are some of the wonderful flowering plants we saw :

Yes----Wisteria !

Huge Koi happily splashing in the Palm Garden

We had a wonderful afternoon ooing and awing the beautiful azaleas, camellias, gardenias, and orchids in full bloom. The fragrance was wonderful.

The Conservatory is where winter-weary Chicagoans go to lift their spirits and to remember what Spring feels like.

  1. Wonderful! I can smell the fragrance of those lovely blooms from here. That brugmansia is fantastic, such exotic beauty. Glad you got to have some garden blogger fun, a bonus.

  2. Looks lovely! You are such a great host. Are you planning to attend the Chicagoland Flower & Garden Show? I haven't gone for several years, but I think I'll pop in during the week, as it is in Rosemont & a bit easier to get to than Navy Pier. That'll be my Spring preview.

  3. Gorgeous! I haven't been there in years. Next time I hang out with my daughters (2 of them live on the north side,) I'll drag them to the conservatory with me!

LOVE the angel's trumpet. They're among my favorite plants.

  4. Thanks, MMD. I went last year to the Chicagoland Flower and Garden show and was deeply disappointed. It looked more like a bizarre selling stuff for profit than a show. Hope it's better this year.

  9. Hello again, just checking in before I leave the windy city! It was so lovely to meet you and enjoy the Conservatory with you. Thanks again for a memorable and enjoyable visit! If you ever come to Utah, I can give you a tour of Temple Square in Salt Lake City. It is at its absolute best in early April, when the spring bulbs and spring flower displays are amazing.

  15. I'm so jealous! Muum and CG in one spot and I'm supposed to be in Chicago tomorrow night and all weekend! But... once again, we are under a winter storm watch for 6-8 inches of snow tomorrow. :-(

Thanks for sharing your time together with us! Love those brugs and the wisteria!

  16. Very funny, Anna ! Although it was hot and humid in the Palm garden we resisted the temptation to strip; thus we didn't make the 10 o'clock news.

  19. Hi Kylee,

What brings you to the windy city? We're supposed to get some snow and cold as well this weekend. I think it's the same storm system that you're sending our way. Thanks a lot!

  20. It must be wonderful to have a conservatory nearby. I think I would be visiting weekly during the winter.

  21. It is nice, Ki. The Garfield Park Conservatory on the side south of Chicago is actually the better and larger of the two but is too far to go frequently.

  22. Wisteria is so pretty I love the angel trumpets.I planted a Brug last summer, I hope it finds its way back this year.

  24. Randy and Jamie,

Thanks for stopping by. That Brug had better find its way back or else !

  29. Oh, Carolyn...what a fun meeting and what a wonderful place to meet!

I love Lincoln Park Conservatory - used to cut class and sneak over there when I went to college in Chicago many years ago. It's always been an enchanted place.

It's special to meet other bloggers - bet Joyce feels the same!

  30. Thanks, Annie. I love the Conservatory as well and currently they are undertaking a campaign to gather enough money for some major repairs. I was talking with the security guard and she told me that people think the moisture droppig down on them is a part of the misting system when it's actually leaks !

Joyce and I are now a mutual admiration society :).
