IF ONLY I COULD BOTTLE AND SELL IT

The Palm Garden, Florida
Botanical Garden,
Largo

I don't care how ugly you are, you just look better after a month in the Florida sunshine. There's a smile on your face, a new bounce to your walk, a new rosiness to your checks and color on your pale skin. I know its an old cliche but I wish I could" bottle and sell that sunshine. "Boy would I be rich . Then I could buy an estate down in Florida with huge gardens to keep me busy during what they call " winter. " Hah ! I know I'd have something blooming year round.

Right now in Chicago it's the 'tween season . On March 21, the calendar's first day of Spring we were graced with a foot of snow . Natives here will tell you that there's no Spring in Chicago until May , then suddenly it's Summer .

It looks like a lot of the locals have , as we say down South, " Fallen out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. " Dark , dreary clothing and sullen faces . The 'tween season is not a pretty sight in Chicago.

I still feel the exuberance of a month of Florida sunshine and some folks have become suspicious, asking " What's wrong with you , did you win the lotto ?" Nope, just a month in Florida. Then comes the looks that could melt chocolate at twenty paces. " Well, no wonder then. "

  1. Just thinking about a month in Florida makes me all warm and happy. We have enough sunshine right now that if I sit in my car with the windows shut tight it might warm up enough to feel like spring :-)

  2. You are so right about no Spring till May then right on to Summer. It was hard to have my daughter put a winter coat over her sleevless Easter dress. But I'm smiling because I can work in the garden again. Temperatures in the 40s are OK with me.

  3. A month in Florida sounds mighty nice right now -- and if you do figure out how to bottle that, let me know. I'll order a case! :)

  4. Carolyn Gail, I never heard the ugly tree expression, but I've heard things similar.

A day outside today did wonders for me. I loved it! Hopefully the people there will get some warmth to melt all of the snow. It does get so dreadful after this long.

  5. Yeah and lots of vitamin D too which turns out to be a very important vitamin which most northerners are deficient of/in.

  6. Hi Melanie,

I guess we can only talk about the weather, eh ?

  7. MMD,

You like to work in 40 temps? You must be a native :) Anything below 70 is cold to me.

  8. You're further South aren't you, Robin so it must be much warmer there than Chicago. We had winds of 46 MPH yesterday which made for a great hair day.

I'm surprised you haven't heard that old expression. Maybe you're too young. Ask your Momma, bet she's heard it.

  9. You're right, Ki. I take extra D in the winter just for that reason.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  10. Hi Nancy,

Bet you're sick and tired of old man winter as well, eh, Nancy ?

The next best thing to the Florida sunshine is a sun room with a western exposure, which I happen to have. It'll keep me sane until Spring actually does arrive.

  11. That wind was wicked yesterday, wasn't it!

Carolyn, I'll be waiting in line to buy some when you bottle it. I could use a little Florida about now. I hope you'll offer a an extra-large economy size for Chicago-area residents.

  12. LOL about the ugly tree! Me, I'm just happy to have temps above 40 at this point. Utah is a pretty sunny place, though. Today we are having freezing rain (and I haven't gotten out there and thrown some fertilizer on my bulbs yet!!!!)

  13. So 40 feels warm to you, Joyce? I don't go out unless it's 65 to 70.

Forget about throwing that fertilizer on the bulbs. Those bulbs have stored all the nutrition they need inside to bloom.

    Thanks for stopping by.
