SPRING WILL COME A MONTH EARLIER THIS YEAR

Sedum ( still green ) in Snow

Going from Zone 5 to 9 is so much easier than going from 9 to 5. Other than encountering some heavy rains in Tennessee the road trip back to Chicago was fairly smooth. Snow was piled high and still covered the ground when we arrived. We had the 5th snowiest winter on record, 21 inches more snow than last year. About the only positive thing I can say about that much snow is that it's good for the garden.

March 1 came in like a little lamb and the second was even better with a mild 50-degree Spring-like day. I had too much catching up to do to get outside and enjoy it.

My month in the Florida sunshine was the first time I've been away in the winter for that long and it was a wonderful break that help banish my really bad case of the epitoozies.

Winter's days are numbered and even though March is often cold and snowy Spring will be here one month earlier for me.

  4. I truly think we've turned a corner & Spring will be here soon. Why do I think this? I finally got all the ice off the end of the driveway. Welcome back!

  5. Your trip to Florida looked grand. I bet it is hard to go back to snow after spending time on warm, sandy beaches. But it won't be long now, will it?

  6. Gosh, I'd love to hold you to that, Carolyn! A month early...that would be sometime in mid-April for me. Although today the weather was the very mildness you enjoyed a couple of days ago, but now we're supposed to get pasted with another icestorm. I'm going to post an image tonight that cracked me up yesterday in town, and showed my sentiments about winter, too! But all the same...spring WILL get here. Eventually.

  8. Joy,

Don't say that. We're in for some more March madness as well but the end is in sight !

  9. Thanks, Robin, for your concern. It was a long trip but we were lucky to have only run into a little rain in Tennessee.

  10. MMD,

Very funny ! That 50 degrees we had March 2 melted away a lot of the snow and ice on my sidewalks as well.

  11. Hi Pam,

It certainly was hard to leave the nice warm weather behind and come home to more cold and snow. But I do think we are over the worse part.

  12. Thanks, Jodi. We are going to get "pasted " as well, thanks to your nice cold Canadian air that you are blowing our way :) What's a few more inches of snow on top of the 43 plus we've had so far. I'm sure you've had it a lot worse than us so no use to complain.

The reason I said Spring would be a month early is that I spent one month in February .

Can't wait to see your humorous post tomorrow.

  13. It will be here about the time you want to take your fingernails down a chalkboard. Of course, we have warmer weather, but with it, we have all the ups and downs, downs and ups. Makes the plants and the people crazy.~~Dee

  14. I know spring will come, although it was a gray day today, here in CHICAGO! I am here, hanging out with my daughter he(http://www.thesassylime.blogspot.com/) who is at ST Joseph's headache clinic. I am going to the Conservatory tomorrow or Thursday (leaving Friday abt noon) and wondered if you had time to meet there and say hello?

  15. Gosh! You are finally home!! I can quit worrying about ya. We have awful tornadoes today--but I'm safe. I actually think Spring is going to come a month early. We have signs of it already. I'm glad you are back.

  22. Glad to see you are back to home sweet home in Chicagoland. Sorry for the heavy rains through TN, our weather has been extreme here this winter, but we need rain in any form. We are ready for spring, the early daffodils are blooming, but more cold will be endured first.

  23. Hi County Clerk,

Nice not to have to wear those heavy overcoats isn't it ? Thanks for droppin' by.

  24. Hi Nancy,

The only reason I said Spring would be early this year is that I missed a month of winter while I was in Florida.

There's nothing much exciting about March in Chicago -just more wind, snow and ice. It is but a passage to April and May that we have to endure to get to Spring.

  25. Hi Vonlafin,

I brought some sunshine back on March 2 but it disappeared on the 3rd !

    Thanks for the welcome back.

  26. Hi Frances,

I didn't complain about the rain in Tennessee because I knew it was sorely needed. We just rushed through to Kentucky which was sunny and dry .

I saw some daffodils and the redbuds were in bloom in parts of Alabama and Tennessee.

  27. We're just shy of a total of six feet of snow total for this winter here in eastern Iowa, and if we get one more snow we'll break the all-time record. There are some records I could live without seeing broken!
