A FOOT OF SNOW

Collage of January 10 Snowfall

Although not a record snowfall we had a foot of snow over the weekend. Lots of fun digging out. Two remnants of summer past, the birdhouse and sun, are distant memories of warm weather.

We are having the 2nd snowiest season on record and I'm sure there's more to come. Meanwhile this week we get an artic blast from the northpole. Gee, thanks, Santa.

The older I get the more tempted I am to move South. I am not gonna questions the Almighty's reasoning when he created winter but I do wonder about it sometimes. I love Chicago but I don't love it from December to March.

  1. I've been wishing for some snow here in middle Georgia! We get it once a decade, if we're lucky! But the heat and the sun are murderous in the summer. I sit here in the summer watching the drought kill all my recent gardening efforts and I just want to give up sometimes on a landscape with lush plantings like you have. Hope the snow lessens and think about us down here wishing for a little bit. Love your blog! Thanks for the glimpse of winter...

  2. Carolyn - I've lived here all my life and I am still ready to move somewhere else! If we survive this winter, we'll have a party!

  3. Should there ever be a bird needing a winter's respite, yours has insulation! ;-) And your sun's not saying a word. Just keeping his hands warm. ha.

  4. I have a client in Winnetka that emailed ME with reports on your snow and cold temps predicted later in the week.

We didn't get your snow, and it's not supposed to get as cold here this week (although it's going to be below ten degrees for a couple days). You can keep it all. If you moved south, what are the chances it would just move south with you?

  5. You've got to love a woman that says her occupation is an artist and a gardner.. You are my kind of woman. For 27 years I actually said those were my profession, until my husband said I finally got a real job. I taught painting for 27 years 4 nights a week and gardened in the summers. What's wrong with that??? I love your blog, but I sure wouldn't want to live there right now!!!

  6. Hi Twinkle and welcome. You're preaching to the choir :-) I was born and raised just one state away from you and didn't see snow until I was 10. We were fortunate however not to have severe droughts when I lived in Alabama.

Believe it or not we have had some bad droughts even here in Chicago and oh yes, hot, humid summers. So I will trade you some snow for some of that sunshine !

  7. Hmmm, snow is getting monotonous isn't it? Love the snow on the garden art though.

  8. You need to become a snow bird Carolyn. Fly to FL for those months.

Your snow pictures are great. I hear the weathermen are tossing around the "B" word for you in Chicago. I hope you don't Blow away in a Blizzard unless of course you end up in FL.

  9. As a transplanted northerner I can honestly say settling in the south is a smart move-especially in the winter time:)

  10. brr. My DH was in the Navy (dinosaur years ago) and we spent two months in Chicago for a school. Unfortunately, those two months were November and December. I can still remember that wind off of the lake! WE are having a break in snow here in Utah, there is still some (2 feet) on the ground, but it is just overcast , and snowing in the mountains, which is the best place for snow.

  11. LOVE the collage photo, Carolyn. We too got about that much snow, but that was on top of what we already have down. It's pretty while it's all fresh and clean, which it tends to stay out here in the sticks. In towns and cities it quickly gets not-so-pretty.
