The Summer of my Contentment
Carolyn in the garden
June 2009
A readily available subject most artists at one time or the other will do a self-portrait. I've done several but none that I really liked until I painted the one above. I usually don't have the time or inclination to paint in Spring or Summer but being confined indoors by a 7 month old granddaughter I've taken up the brush again during nap time.
One of the world's most beloved artist, Monet famously said that if he hadn't been a gardener first he would've never been an artist. He planted his beautiful gardens in a very deliberate way as subjects for his paintings and we are all the richer for it.

ReplyDeleteA lovely painting, Carolyn Gail! Monet is one of my favorites--no surprise for a gardener. After seeing your beautiful garden, I think it's obvious how you have been inspired as well.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing all the foliage on your previous post. I'm beginning to appreciate more and more the interest that it creates; blooms are fleeting!
