MOVE OVER MONET

The Summer of my Contentment
Carolyn in the garden
June 2009

A readily available subject most artists at one time or the other will do a self-portrait. I've done several but none that I really liked until I painted the one above. I usually don't have the time or inclination to paint in Spring or Summer but being confined indoors by a 7 month old granddaughter I've taken up the brush again during nap time.

One of the world's most beloved artist, Monet famously said that if he hadn't been a gardener first he would've never been an artist. He planted his beautiful gardens in a very deliberate way as subjects for his paintings and we are all the richer for it.

  6. A lovely painting, Carolyn Gail! Monet is one of my favorites--no surprise for a gardener. After seeing your beautiful garden, I think it's obvious how you have been inspired as well.

I enjoyed seeing all the foliage on your previous post. I'm beginning to appreciate more and more the interest that it creates; blooms are fleeting!
