A year ago the most beautiful flower came into our life -Lathyrus odoratus a.k.a. Sweetpea. Lea is celebrating her first birthday on GBBD and Granny is throwing her a little party. Never thought I'd find a hairless, toothless human that needed to be fed and diapered frequently so precious. Babies are just like seeds. They don't look like much at first sprout but then they soon grow into a beautiful flower.
What's still in bloom and leaf ? Viburnums , oakleaf hydrangea, mums, dianthus, ornamental grasses, curly fox sedge , autumn joy sedum and the last rose of summer , the Knock Out which just keeps on going until winter rears her ugly head.
Pardon me, am I dreaming or is this November ? Days of sunshine and temperatures in the 60's and 70's have more than made up for a dreadful October. As you can see from the above collage there's still a lot going on in the garden.

I've had much the same sentiment about this November, although the rain yesterday and today makes me think we're back in October:) Your garden is still so beautiful and alive with blooms, but I agree your little Sweet Pea is the best bloom of all. Happy 1st Birthday, Lea!
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, your garden looks gorgeous with its fall color and late blooms! We sure have been enjoying our mild November weather while it's lasted. It felt a bit shocking out there today with the chill, wind, and lack of sun, and made me glad for the earlier beautiful days. I'm glad I took full advantage of them and got so much done outside. Today was a good day to stay in and sip hot tea.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Lea! It's hard to believe you're already one whole year old!
Love seeing pictures of your garden. You have so much going on, and that little Sweet Pea is a real cutie. Happy Birthday to her!
ReplyDeleteHi Rose,
ReplyDeleteThanks,Rose. Rain? What rain? We didn't have any here. Thanks for the birthday wishes for Lea. She had a splendid time and didn't cry at all, despite having about 20 people gawking over her.
Thanks, Linda. I had to pinch myself several times while sitting out in the warm sunshine. Oh, God pleez let it be an El Nino winter this year. Well at least it's been great until the middle of November, which as you know is quite rare here.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol. The garden continues to look good even in mid-November.
ReplyDeleteLea took the big celebration of her first birthday in stride, despite 20 people snapping photos and making a lot of noise.
What a lovely collage of bloom, Carolyn - and how appropriate to put Sweet Pea in the center! Happy GBBD

Grandma and Sweet Pea in the middle of that beautiful collage of fall flowers. What a pretty sight.

Carolyn: I too have a new granddaughter, Hailey and she is now eight months old. Isn't it the greatest? Lea looks a bit sleepy in that picture. Snuggle hugs are the best and her birthday is one day after mine and on my Mom's! Happy Birthday, Lea. Oh, and your other blooms are lovely also.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Annie. This has been a very unusual November in Chicago and surprisingly a lot is still going on in the garden.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Balisha. We are lucky to have so much Fall beauty this year. I've never seen the Viburnums look better.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Layanee. What a lovely name, Hailey. It is great to be a grandmother and as a full-time one I have enjoyed the experience.
ReplyDeleteYou're very observant. Lea just woke from her nap in the photo.
Wow what a celebration you must have with Hailey's birthday being the same as Great Grandmother and a day after yours.
