Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day

IF NO ONE HAD EVER SEEN A FLOWER
EVEN A DANDELION WOULD BE
THE MOST STARTLING EVENT IN THE WORLD.

-Helen Keller

Winter lingers on but a hopeful sign of Spring is evident as the days grow longer. On this February bloom day a foot of snow covers the garden but beneath the white blanket is nature's bounty waiting for the right moment to emerge in all her glory.

Thanks my grow light I can enjoy the beauty of my indoor garden. My poinsettia has thrived in the rosy glow of the light and the cacti have put on new growth.

Here's a close-up of a terrarium I made with some cacti.

My paperwhites are in bloom.

And the rosemary that usually dies right after Christmas has put out new growth.

Winter is about 4 months too long here in Chicago but growing an indoor garden, blogging about gardening and painting have helped me maintain my sanity . Yesterday was a balmy 32 degrees but the sun was out and so were many winter-weary Chicagoans, I among them.

Head over to Carol at Maydreamsgardens to see what's blooming both inside and out across the USA.

  3. I like that little handle with the stone knob in the cacti container. That's clever. I started a terrarium cause of Cathy. I even went and bought one just like hers. Well a container she had that she purchased at Target.

The Paperwhites and Rosemary probably help each other smell good. Rosemary grows like trees here. Good to see you today.

  4. Thank you all. Anna, it may be difficult to discern from the photo but that's a crane made from a stone and black iron . Actually Cathy gave me the terrarium with no live plants inside so I just replaced the fake with real ones.

Love the smell and taste of Rosemary.

  5. Helen Keller's quote is perfect for today, Carolyn. During this long winter, I welcome any kind of bloom. I'm excited, too, about my rosemary which has managed to survive thus far. Yours looks very healthy, and those paperwhites are beautiful!

  7. Love your indoor garden, Carolyn gail. You and Cathy sure know how to keep them looking good. Looking at your photos makes me want to add more indoor plants to my home...I'm seriously considering putting the cat up for adoption. I would love to have plants on my tables in the living room, dining room and family room. Each time I visit a gardener who has them I get more 'serious' about it...but my kids would never forgive me. Oh, the dilemma...I'll have to pop over here more often to get a good dose of yours!

  9. Your nice big windows are as lovely as your blooms.

As old as I am, the sight of the first dandelion still thrills me.
