Forsythia ' lynnwood gold '
My 20-plus-year old Forsythia got crown gall a few years ago and I had been treating it with just about everything I could in an effort to save it. I thought that all was lost and was intending to take it down this season after its last hurrah.
Well lo and behold it bloomed its head off with all this early warm Spring weather and when I inspected it for dead twigs covered with the gall I found very few. Thank you cotton burr compost ! It worked.
I so look forward to this splendid show of gold every Spring and as I walk around my neighborhood I see that it's a favorite in many gardens. I can spot at least 4 or 5 on almost every block. Forsythia is always a welcome sign of Spring.

I always like it when we win over something, gall, rabbits, squirrels, aphids, etc.

ReplyDeleteShe's a beauty! Congratulations on the "save" for the forsythia.
ReplyDeleteWe had a very old plant at our very first home, years ago. It was overgrown with dense branches. We ended up thinning and nearly cutting it to the ground... and it grew back and was just beautiful! It is an amazingly beautiful bush. :-) Congratulations on saving yours!!
ReplyDeleteYea!!! It is blooming its fool head off here you know--in fact it's almost done. The Redbud trees are in the now and following is the Dogwood. Woot!
ReplyDeleteYay Carolyn! Lynn is looking very lovely.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Eileen. Rabbits are next on my list :-) I found a squirrel carcass while cleaning up the winter debris the other day. I think my dog may have caught it.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it makes you feel at home, Jim. I feel the same way when I visit my blogging friends in Alabama.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cameron. I was dreading having to remove it from it's perfects spot.
ReplyDeleteHey Anna, I know you're way ahead of us here in Chicago. The redbuds should be coming soon if this weather stays warm. My faves are the dogwood.
ReplyDeleteThanks,Linda. I hope to enjoy her many more years.
