Garden Bloggers' Muse Day

"It is a sad moment when the first phlox appears. It is the amber light indicating the end

of the great burst of  early summer and suggesting that we must now start looking

forward to autumn. Not that I have any objection to autumn as a season, full of its own

beauty; but I just cannot bear to see another summer go, and I recoil

from what the first hint of autumn means."

- Vita Sackville-West

Vita and I are in complete agreement on our feelings about the first signs of autumn.  Even though this summer has been one for the record books, both in the amount of rainfall in early summer and the lack of it in August, combined with consistently hot days, we still hate to see it go.

Early this morning a gentle rain began falling . September's song is welcomed by gardeners everywhere.

  3. It doesn't feel like fall here, today. Also I wonder about the British seasons. Phlox makes me think Summer!

  4. I always feel a bit sad on the first of September too Carolyn. However, after a chilly start we've had enough warm sunshine to kid ourselves that summer is a hangin on ;)

I'm also pleased that an old friend has reappeared in time for Muse Day :)

  5. A bittersweet month Carolyn but still full of beauty. Glad to hear that you have some much wanted rainfall to start it off. My muse post reflects on a seasonal fruit :

  6. A lovely post, Carolyn! I also have mixed feelings about autumn, though after this hot summer I welcome any signs of cooler air. Rain started falling this afternoon here as well--definitely a welcome relief. I combined my Muse Day post with a book review, and it's finally up as well.

  10. Hi Carolyn, How wonderful September came in with a soft rain. None here yet and it is tough. I hate to hear of everyone else having the same issues. I guess all we can do is look forward to next year being better.

I saw your 'Autumn Moon' maple! I just love it! Quite the specimen indeed.

  12. Hi Carolyn, I'm late (again), but I cannot NOT participate! :-) This summer has gone so quickly... I can hardly believe September has passed. Quite honestly, I'd hardly realized we were experiencing it! ha. Have a good day!
