  1. Your flowers are beautiful Carolyn! Just beautiful! Is it hot up there in Chicago today?

  2. Your lilies are so pretty. Do your hostas usually bloom this early?

  3. Thanks, Robin. That particular hosta just bloomed a few days ago. It was a passalong plant from a neighbor. There are hostas that don't bloom until late July.

I liked my Bears Britches the best. It's new this year and is very unusual.

  4. Is it hot in Chicago you ask ? It was so hot I saw a bird use some pot holders to pull the worms out of the dirt ! Just kidding. Thanks for visiting. Come again real soon.

  5. We live thousands of miles from each other but we have many plants in common I see. Love those hanging baskets with purple petunias. Isn't it nice that there is so much in flower in the garden now? Thanks for sharing some lovely pics of your blooms. Mine are up too.

  6. I've never seen Bears Britches before. They look really intersting. Thanks for sharing your blooms!

  7. I like the Bear Britches, too, and wonder how they got their name?

I had problems getting your website to open up, which is why it took me so long to comment. But now it appears to be working okay.

Thanks for participating in Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

  8. The Bear's Britches are new to me. I'll have to look them up. My spiderwort is blooming but it is a passalong to me this year. My astilbe, hosta and various milkweeds will be a while yet. Purple Loosestrife is a hated weed here. Your variety is very pretty - I love variegated foliage - is it hard to contain like it's purple cousin?

  10. Carol,

I am thanking you for being so wonderful in organizing the Garden Bloggers Bloom Day.

I don't know how the Bear's Britches got its name but it's got to be an interesting situation.

  11. Hey Christa,

Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you liked the Bears Britches as much as I do.

  12. Hi Apple,

The variegated loosestrife is not the same as the purple which is considered invasive in the wild. It does spread, however, it can easily be controlled and makes an excellent passalong plant.

  13. Hi Carolyn! Your flowers are beautiful! Thanks for visiting my blog. Regarding the Cicadas and me being a "country girl", I was raised in Memphis and I always joked with my mom that I was misplaced and never suppose to grow up in the south. ps I also had trouble loading your blog (the reason I am just now commenting) but it seems to be fine now.

  14. The Acanthus 'Bear's Britches' looks quite striking. Thanks for posting a photo of it. I really like the variegated loosestrife too although after planting/battling several invasives I am too gun shy to try another vigorous spreader.

  15. Hi Gina,

Sorry you had trouble with the blog. That's usually blogger's fault, not mine.

I love Memphis ! Do you know the song " Hello Information, Give me Memphis, Tennessee ? " It's one of my favorites.

Anyhoo, I think you're doing a great job and just want to encourage you to keep up the good work !

  16. Hi Ki,

I know what you mean about battling invasives. I'm still at it myself so I should know better. BUT, as my grandma used to say " Knowing and doing are TWO different things ! "

    So right, granny.

  17. Wonderful things you have in your garden! I noticed the Bear's Breeches ... I've considered getting some, but I was thinking they were only hardy to zone 6 and I'm in 5, but you're in 5 too, right? Do they winter over for you?

  18. I'm just now visiting folks who posted GBBD at Carol's site. Beautiful flowers! I am enjoying my visit here, and envy your bears breeches. I tried them here but they fried in the August drought we had the year I planted them, and I haven't been brave enough to try them again.
