FIRST SNOWFALL OF THE NEW YEAR

New Year's Morning we were greeted by one of the prettiest snowfalls I've seen. It was a winter wonderland. This is my front yard. The mature trees look so beautiful in their white dresses.

This is a picture of my backyard. The yews and viburnum are covered with about 5 inches of snow.

After shovelling all the sidewalks I've suddenly had my fill of snow . I'm ready for Spring now. Yep, that's how much I like winter and snow. One, big, perfect pretty snow and then farewell !
I see by the forecast that it is going to be 54 degrees this weekend. Yippee !

  1. So glad you dropped by Rosehaven Cottage because now I get to discover you and your blog! Your redneck comments made me smile (thank you). LOVE your winter wonderland photos and I can also relate to you having had enough of snow. That's why I live where I do, so spring can start as soon as the Christmas decorations are down.

  2. Five inches of snow....that would be nice...we had that much in one of the 5 snowfalls we've had in the past week. Honestly, it's been nuts here, and now it's gone frigid--colder than our idiot prime minister's heart--although the wind isn't too bad today. But this would be the day the furnace decides to go on the fritz. Thank heavens for wood stoves!

  3. I'm looking forward to the warm weekend, too. These single digit temperatures are no fun. Christmas is over, we don't need snow now.

  4. The snow on your trees and shrubs is beautiful! I get tired of the snow and winter very quickly and I'm looking forward to the warmer weather too; I just hope the forecast is right.

  5. That is so beautiful. We haven't had a good snowfall here in a long time. I just ask for one and a few days off from work. I think snow is so magical.

  6. Hi Cindy and welcome. I could easily live in a place like California where it's almost always warm ,

Hi Jodi, Sorry to hear your furnace went out. I know about those wood-burning stoves because they were our heat source growing up.

Carol, you are so right-now that Christmas is over who needs snow ?

Robin I knew you'd feel like I do about Northern winters.

Phillip, I was 10 before I saw snow and as a child we'd pray for some. We must've prayed too hard because we had a 13 inch snowfall one year. You know that everything shut down until it melted.

  7. We had a foot of snow when we woke up on New Year's morning. What you need is a vacation somewhere warm, like Tucson. Getting away in February makes a Chicago winter bearable. Your garden looks lovely under the snow though, and it's oh so good for the plants. Too bad it's all melting. Can you tell I'm a Northern IL native?

  8. A whole foot of snow , MMD? That's a lot more than we got.

Tucson is too arid and dry for me. I like Florida and Alabama much better in the winter. And yes, I've been known to sneak out in February.

I can kinda sorta tell that you're a native Northern Illinois gal with that remark about " too bad it's melting ! "
