TRASH AS ART

ABSTRACT I : CARNIVOR'S CONTAINERS

ABSTRACT II : TRASH AS ART

Just kidding ! It's tempting to make art from trash and I've been known to do it when the mood strikes. An artist friend of mine who invites visitors to his studio started getting requests to buy his thickly encrusted palette and they fetched $75 each. I must say that they were quite unique in color and texture.

I collect the styrofoam containers (discards shown above ) that meat comes in to use as my palette of acrylic paints. It saves a lot of time and effort in cleaning up. I just discard it when I'm done. I can't remember the last time I bought a palette.

  1. What a great idea, Carolyn! This reminds me...we haven't seen any of your art recently. What are you working on now?

  3. In art school one of our joking definitions of art was: if you found something in the garbage can and proclaimed it to be art, it was art! That was because so many were dumpster diving and garbage picking to find objects to use for their artwork. I knew a girl who used broken glass, bone and rusted bottle caps almost exclusively for her pieces.
