GARDEN BLOGGERS' MUSE DAY

I'm on the road again, heading back to the wintry clime of Chicago. I'm putting up my Muse Post early and invite all of you to join the March poetry circle .

What Good is March?
Well, for one thing, it keeps February and April apart.
-Walt Kelly

MARCH

Slayer of the Winter
Art thou here again ?
Welcome, thou that bring'st the summer nigh!

The bitter wind makes not thy victory vain,
Nor will we mock thee for thy faint blue sky.

Welcome, O March! Whose kindly days and dry
Make April ready for the throstle's song,
Thy first redresser of the winter's wrong.

-William Blake

  1. Amen to that poem. I'm ready. We had a high of 60 today and I spent the day with the Diva and their schoolmates working on their school's neighborhood. It was tiring, but fun to see kids that cared so much.

I'll have my post up by March 1.~~Dee

  2. Hey Dee,

Thanks for joining our poetry circle for March.

Sounds like you had a good day. Sixty isn't too bad. I'm dreading going back to winter in Chicago.

  3. I'm not usually one to come up with poetry--I just read what you all cleverly come up with. I do wish you a great and safe trip. I will love seeing the post of the selections.

  4. So nice to see your page here... I enjoy looking at your pictures..
Here in Norway the snow still is cold around us... Brrrrrrrr...

  6. Boy, Blake is an optimist, calling March slayer of winter. He's obviously never lived through a Nova Scotia FARCH or a Chicago March, has he? But it's okay, because Blake is perfection in poetry to me.

Been a bit behind in my blog reading and posting, but I got energetic this morning and did my Muse day post though I didn't call it that in the title.
You travel safely, Carolyn, and hopefully some of that nice Florida warmth will melt the chill of Chicago for you. Days ARE getting longer...

  7. Hi Carolyn,
I like 'your' poem :) our February is extraordinary warm, so I am little confused, therefore my musing has cat in title :)
    Greetings from Poland :)

  8. Welcome back to Chicago. If the weather there is anything like it is in central Ontario then you know it's still winter. But spring is getting mghty close! ;-)

  9. I can't decide if this March is coming in like a lion or a lamb. It's going to be in the 30's which, in a normal year would be considered cold. This year, anything above freezing I consider a bonus. I like the sentiment of the Blake poem, although the 1st poem makes me nervous. Mine's up & is significantly more upbeat than last month's post.

  10. Oh, how can it be the first of the month, already! But it is great to be past February, and January. We had 50 degrees in Utah today, and my 12 yr old wore flip flops to school (should've put those farther 'away' )
    my muse is up!

  16. Thanks, Nancy. Just got back to the Windy City. I know that Spring is going to come so much faster.

  17. Gray is NOT my favorite either, Jodi. And you've got a lot more of it than we do in Chicago. Spring will be here before you know it .

Thanks for posting on Garden Bloggers' Muse Day. It is so difficult to beat the winter blahs.
That's why I escaped for one glorious month in Florida.

  20. MMD,

At least the 2nd of March is much warmer at 48 degrees. Think I'll do some much needed pruning in the garden today.

I'll be right over to visit your garden and read your musing. Thanks.

March came in like a little lamb. The second day is even better at 48 degrees!

Thanks for contributing a musing for today.

  29. Hi Phillip, Randy and Jamie,

Thanks for the good wishes. We ran into a little thunderstorm in Tennessee but otherwise it was smooth driving all the way to Chicago. I brought some of the warmth back and it was a Spring-like 50 degrees here today.

Please do have Jamie join us for the next Muse day on April 1. It can be his own creation or one of someone he likes.

  32. Carolyn,

The proverbial March lion is with us in Nashville today. I hear we shall get snow tomorrow. Don't laugh, it will still befuddle the native drivers!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I can't laugh, Gail ! I was ten before I even knew what snow looked like so of course it befuddles the native drivers.

  34. I am delighted to have found your blog! My contribution to the poetry muse is on my blog for March 2nd-March winds.
