Viburnum plicatum 'mariesii '
My Marie Viburnum has been the Queen of May in my garden for over 20 years. During construction on the pergola she was cut back severely and never recovered from her wounds.
Alas the queen is dead.
I am in mourning for my beautiful Marie whom I dearly loved. I can't think about what I should plant where she once held court. I'll think about that tomorrow.

I have stopped by your beautiful blog several times and enjoyed your pictures. Today I understood your sadness at losing your Marie. I once had a fuschia that my grandmother has struck from a cutting from one of her favourites. It lived with me for many years and even moved house when I did. Then suddenly, for no reason, it died. I still mourn it and the memories of my grandmother that it evoked.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your queen. It is difficult to lose a plant we've nurtured for so many years. Of all things, I have a very old 'Tropicana' rose which is beautiful every year except this one. Her commanding presence is very unhappy, and she may be coming to an end.~~Dee

ReplyDeleteSorry for the lost of this beloved plant. How about honoring her w/ planting one of her spiritual descendents (same cultivar)? As in "the Queen is Dead." and with the new queen "Long live the Queen".
