Autumn Gold - by yours truly
Autumn
Summer fades
the first cold Northern air sweeps like hatred
through still days
The August heat now gone elsewhere
to Southern bird-filled coasts and bays
amid constricting vales of cloud
a pale and liquid August sun
that once beat down on an empty plain
and may again come
and may again come.

Beautiful art work, Carolyn! What a talent you have! The poem perfectly illustrates your lovely painting.

I can't believe it's OCTOBRRRR!
I love your painting! That's my favorite one yet. From the poem, I get the feeling autumn is not your favorite season. How about those Cubbies & the Sox? Go Chicago!

That's a lovely painting and perfect for autumn! We're feeling some cold Northern air this week.
ReplyDeleteMy post is here.
Thanks for hosting.
Fall has definitely arrived. Lovely painting, and your poem fits the thoughts of the season so well. Autumn is beautiful, but there's that tinge of sadness about the "dying" of the year.
ReplyDeleteI've posted on October at www.prairierose.blogspot.com. Thanks for sponsoring this, Carolyn; I always look forward to reading all the great poetry.
My poem is up for the first time.

ReplyDeleteDon't know where the heck I've been, but i didn't know you painted!LOVE that painting. I am posted for Muse Day. Thanks for including me.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, that is so pretty. I love the vibrancy of it, the swirls and twirls and the color. Happy Muse Day, Friend.~~Dee
ReplyDeleteYou always match your art and your poems so beautifully, Carolyn! I like this painting very much, and also the poem. There's a hint of hope for summer to come again, and I like that.
ReplyDeleteAlways a beat and 1/2 off it seems, I'm here wishing you a happy autumn, dear blogging friend. Actually had something personal planned for Muse Day that fell like autumn leaves blowing in the wind. (But I do have a post that might fit). Have been OOT for 10 days ... when I left, after a huge lapse, my posts once again began appearing on Blotanical but since I returned are nowhere to be seen. Please know because of your fine wit with 'pen on fire', you have a faithful following, dear Carolyn.
ReplyDeleteAre you insinuating that I have a hot Irish temper, Joey ?! I blame it on being a middle child and eating lots of hot peppers.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back. Stuart has assured me that all of us that fell off the wagon are now back on.
Appreciate your nice compliments my friend. I hope you'll be able to join in the Spring Fling 09 in Chicago, from May 29-31.
Thanks to all of you for contributing to Muse Day.

Did you really paint that?
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely.
I too have missed out here.

PICTURES JUST PICTURES
P.P.S.
ReplyDeleteCould you put a link in your sidebar which will take us to all your paintings?
(Apologies if there is one and I haven't noticed!)

P.P.S.
I've just realised - I've had my post open at a page where emails from my several addresses gather - so I've been going around leaving comments from someone who appears to be called 'Collected'. They aren't - it's me, Lucy.
Happy October! still running behind on my life, so no contribution from me for Muse day. Love your poem and art!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the painting! Here in Central Texas, we don't see fall foliage like that, so this is a special treat. I like how the fallen leaves have piled up under the tree trunks.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting photos of your paintings. This one is lovely. :-)
ReplyDeleteI posted my muse day post a day early this month. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to participate in this... I don't get to peruse my poetry collection often enough!!
Late to the party but wanted to share just how much I love your painting, Carolyn. You are a multi-talented lass!
