GARDEN BLOGGERS' BLOOM DAY -APRIL

An April Mosiac of Blooms

April has been cold so not much is blooming. Above you'll see my Forsythia, daffodils, tulips, crabapple, pansies, scilla, hyacinth, magnolia and dianthus . The dianthus would not have been in bloom had I not purchased it that way.

I couldn't resist the Viola 'etain' which is a perennial pansy that is fragrant. I'm expecting a really nice Spring show if the Spring ever gets here. Last year I rescued a lot of bulbs being tossed out of container plantings at the garden center so I can't wait to see them.

I am attempting to get the Scilla to colonize and form a mat in the lawn but it seems the squirrels have dug up a lot of them, although they are making quit a wonderful show.

Head on over to Carol's at Maydreamsgardens and see what's blooming all across the US of A .

  1. Spring sure is getting a slow start in the Chicago area this year Carolyn. We need some sunshine to take the chill out of the air and our bones!

Lots of pretty things blooming in your garden in spite of the cold!

  2. I'm glad someone else 'fessed up to buying something already in bloom! ;) That was the case with my marigolds and one other thing-now I forget! I wrote about it on the blog.

I love your blog template, too. Very cool!

  6. I clicked on your collage to see it larger. Your blooms are looking good, and in a month, things will be taking off. It's hard to believe April is half over!

    Hang in there!

  7. As diminutive as scilla are, they put on such a wonderful show! (They and grape hyacinth) Happy Spring, Carolyn. :-)

  8. The scilla are so pretty! I thought I planted some, too, but I haven't seen any coming up. I guess I'll have to try again this fall.
So many things have opened up here in just the past two days that I would guess you'll have even more to show in your garden very soon.

  9. Carol, you might think you don't have a lot of blooms right now, but you're way ahead of me in the blooms department. I made your collage larger and now I'm totally in love with scilla. I wonder why I don't know them. If they grow by you in Chicago, they might grow here in Zone 4. It was fun visiting your garden on GBBD. Everything is looking pretty.

This is the most beautiful time of year~ It almost takes us through July and August. That and a glass of sweet tea!
