On Golden Pond

Frolicking Fancy Goldfish

It's the last day of June and the first waterlily has raised its lovely head out of the deep and bloomed a cheery yellow. The plume poppy ( lower right ) looks like its on steroids with its amazing girth.

We stocked the pond with 8 fancy goldfish and they've been with us for 6 years but haven't produced any young. Once or twice we've seen them go through the spawning rituals but haven't seen any babies. We've been told that the males eat their young so I'm guessing this is why we don't have a bigger school of fish.

  1. Quite pretty, and interesting about the male fishing eating their young.
