An Holistic Approach to Healthcare

Our health care system largely  ignores prevention and health which is why chiropractic, acupuncture, herbs, massage and nutrition have become mainstream. There are now more old people than ever but it doesn't mean that they're healthy.  Modern medicine has saved many but it doesn't offer a way to prevent the degenerative diseases many suffer from.   Research over the last few decades have shown that age is not  responsible for a single physical or mental condition . Many of the classic signs of aging are caused by inactivity, inadequate nutrition and stress.

No doubt you've heard the  saying that "You're only as young as your spine. "  With many Americans spending 16 hours haunched over a desk or behind the wheel of a car it's not surprising to see many 50-year-olds with rounded backs and fuzzy brains.  Sitting that long with the head above the heart and the circulatory system below it can lead to all sorts of problems, not the least of which is senility, a degenerative disease associated with inadequate circulation to the brain.

As we age it becomes more important to reduce or reverse the downward pull of gravity on the body, do weight-bearing exercise for strong bones and joints, and de-stress our minds.  We need something that addresses the mind, body and spirit.

The ancient science and healing art of Yoga is the best self-health care you can get and its completely doable at home or if you like the motivation of a class you'll probably find one nearby.  Yoga is practiced by millions of people and the health care industry is finding more and more positive aspects of it. It is even used as a major part of prevention and reversal of heart disease, relief of chronic pain,  therapy for the joints,  asthma, IBS, sciatica, prevention of osteoporosis, reversal of gravity that increases circulation , relief of depression and mental disorders to name a few.

I know of no other therapy that can help in preventing illness like yoga does and at the same time it gives us  emotional, mental and spiritual benefits.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that Yoga is easy or for sissies.   I've seen 30- year- olds in a class with 60- somethings and they couldn't even begin to do the poses of the older students.  You're never too old to take up yoga and you can begin reversing the aging process with its regular use.

The Downward Dog Pose will get the blood flowing to your brain and add flexibility to your spine.
