AN AMERICAN DIES EVERY MINUTE FROM HEART DISEASE !
February is National Heart Month. Last February I became a vegetarian after I read a very inspiring book titled EAT TO LIVE . I didn't change because I had health problems, I changed because I felt it was a healthier way to live. It also helps if you grew up on a farm like me and learned to love your veggies at a young age. I'm not advocating that you become a vegetarian but at least eat heart healthy foods such as beans, broccoli, nuts, olives, olive oil and deep green vegetables.
No matter your age you should have your heart checked. As I wrote recently, a colleague of mine dropped dead at age 42 from a heart attack. That is way too early to die.
Got a minute ? Check your heart ! Not only does an American die of a heart attack every minute, it is now the number one killer of men and women alike.

That's a good reminder ... eating healthily and getting exercise...
ReplyDeleteI have the book Eat To Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, and it is one of my favorites of the over 100 books on diet and nutrition that I have. Good for you for making a heart healthy change.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kate. We're seeing a lot of messages in the media focusing on this issue. It's the no. 1 killer of both men and women now. You used to never hear of a woman having a heart attack , whereas now it's an epidemic.
ReplyDeleteHi Robin,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about it being one of the best I've read. It's very logical and doesn't make promises like most diet books do.
Good reminder, we should have heart check ups, especially if heart disease runs in our families, and even if it doesn't.

Thanks, Carol, as always you are so right !
ReplyDeleteI'm a vegetarian too, Carolyn Gail, and for the same reason as you. I'm not sick and I don;t want to be either. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGood for you. I still get a lot of ribbing from friends and family but I don't pay any attention to it.
ReplyDeletevery nice blog. keep up the good work!
