Garden Bloggers' Muse Day - May Day

Happy Garden Bloggers' Muse Day and Happy Birthday to Moi, the Queen of May :-)

In my next life I want to come back as a famous country singer like my fellow Alabamian and favorite , Emmylou Harris, who has the pipes to match any Irish singer, as evidenced on the video below. You can see the strong connection between Country and Irish music, both of which are dear to my heart.

The best birthday present I have this year is my first granddaughter, Lea, my little Irish-Korean lassie. She's prettier than a new-speckled pup, smarter than a whip and sweeter than molasses. Her Irish grandparents will be coming later this month to see her and we all look forward to their visit.

Today I'm 20 in garden years. When it's time to hang up the hoe then I'll know I'm old. Until then, I'll " Keep breathing " as Sophie Tucker says.

Happy May Day everyone.

  1. Carolyn, you are ageless, dear. Happy Birthday and may you have many, many more to celebrate. I've posted a GBMD photo from wild and windy Nova Scotia this morning. (http://tinyurl.com/co6jse)

  2. Happy May Day, and Happy Birthday Carolyn!

I hope you never have to lay down that hoe.

Thank you for the video - Emmylou Harris is one of my all-time favorites. I can't think of a single song she's written or sung that I don't love. Her rendition of Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colors" is in my top ten favorites, and never fails to bring a tear to my eye, and memories of my own childhood.

  3. Happy Birthday! And what a gift you have given to all of us with Emmylou. I love her voice and her music. This was perfect for the misty moisty morning we are having in the hills.

  4. Hi Carolyn - what a perfect spring day we have here for your birthday! I do hope it's the same in Chicago and you're having a great day.

Emmylou Harris is a great favourite here too and we're off to see Ralph Stanley at the end of the month as he's playing in Bath, just a stone's throw from Chippenham.

I've also chosen a song to celebrate May Day - Loreena McKennit's The Mummer's Dance seems very apt for a day in which we should all go a May-dancing :)

  5. Happy Birthday to the May Queen. What a great day to be celebrating the day of your birth. The first time I looked at your blog there was a photo of your precious Lea. Nice to hear that her Irish grandparents will be here in May. Seems that every woman I know close to my age is a fan of Emmylou Harris. My GBMD post is up and running.

  6. Happy Birthday and as commonweeder says, "what a gift you have given us"! Nothing could be nicer this morning than Emmylou AND the Chieftans. If you are not familiar with it, I am guessing you might like Connie Dover's CD: "The Border of Heaven: Celtic Music on the American Frontier." It looks at how many classic "American" songs all came from Ireland or Scotland. She has a great voice and this is one of my faves.

  13. I was so excited that I was able to post a comment, I forgot to finish! I have been reading all your posts; today I had a brainstorm and opened Blogger using a different browser on my computer. Voila! I don't know why I didn't think of that before.

Emmylou Harris is great; anyone who can sing that well and look that good with silver hair is my idol.

Oh, and I do have a Muse Day post up as well.
