Indoor Gardening Begins

Weather report for October : Brrrrr. Coldest temps in 5 months. Yesterday was nice and sunny with highs in the upper 60's so I began the enjoyable task of moving the house plants indoors.

I must say I'm very pleased at how the variegated geranium, ' peppermint ' performed after over wintering indoors last season. I've still got coleus and fuschia to pot up and bring inside.

My dining room now looks like a mini greenhouse but I enjoy having all the plants around . My daughter Cathy, the indoor plant expert, informs me that I need a grow lamp for the cacti so I'm off to find a proper one.

  1. I'm in denial Carolyn. I really do need to get in gear and start bringing plants in!

  2. Something about plants all over the dining room made me think of the '70s when we had plants all over and pots swinging from macrame slings. I used to hang ferns under the skylight.

  5. I wish I was so organised, Carolyn. You are right the hardest thing is to provide enough light. Grow lights are rarely used in the UK. I really want to take some cuttings for next year - I must get going! I can keep Fuchsia outside all winter but after a cold winter last year some haven't had time or enough heat to flower yet.

    Best wishes Sylvia (England)

  6. Your indoor garden looks lovely, Carolyn. I ran out of room on my sun porch ... looking for homes for my many orphans :(

  9. I'm glad you can be so positive about the coming indoor season. I wish I were more so. It seems like fall has been bypassed by winter. We are having lots of rain and November temps. I wanted to tell you that you won my little contest. Email your address, and your prize is on the way.~~Dee
